How its works
Bactrim works by blocking bacteria from producing Folic Acid and then by drying the fluids in the infection, helping the healing process. This is one reason that Bactrim and it’s generics are one of the most popular and prescribed antibiotics out there today in AU, NZ and UK. In addition to treating bacterial infections, Bactrim is also used to prevent a certain types of pneumonias in people with weak immune systems. Immune-compromised people are at a significantly greater risk of developing serious health problems.
Bactrim against urinary tract infections, bronchitis, STDs
Health care providers use Bactrim to treat many different infections such as bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, shigellosis (dysentry), bladder infections, (UTI’s) urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and ear infections. Bactrim is not effective against all types of bacteria. And even some of the strains that do respond to the drug are becoming evermore resistant to the treatments as the bacteria mutates. MRSA or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus is a good example of this and it is relatively new to research. MRSA is one of the most dangerous infectious bacterias in the world today. Almost three hundred thousand people a year are hospitalized from MRSA. Bactrim happens to be a very effective treatment for MRSA. But despite this, Bactrim is completely ineffective against viral infections like the flu or the common cold.
Dosage
The common dosage for adults with normal, healthy kidney fuctions, is one 600mg tablet taken orally twice a day for fourteen days. This can vary depending on factors like the patients’ weigh, infection type and severity, and any concurrent medications being taken. Bactrim or its generics are not recommended for people with any of the following: thyroid disorders, HIV/AIDS, asthma, liver or kidney disease, or anemia as it can worsen these conditions. Bactrim is classified as a Category C type drug and is not safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding. The full risks are not yet known, but like any other prescription, your doctor can recommend what’s best for you. With generics, it should be noted that inactive filler agents or dyes are added by the manufacturers to keep their formulas legally independent of Bactrims.This can cause discomfort for people with allergies or sensitivities to these kinds of filler agents.
